I know your question is old but it might be helpful for other to know from personal experience that I visited Japan last week, and I brought my iPhone 6 (US model) to Japan, and I used it with NTT Docomo, and 99.5% of the time I had great LTE coverage and speeds always above 30Mbps. There were only some spots inside tunnels or at the top of hills where my coverage would drop to 3G.
